Glenn Beck wins the Charles Darwin Prize? WTF?

Home Disclaimer Contents For Glenn Beck Share This URL
Last weekend, Glenn Beck was awarded one of the prizes awarded for the Tribeca annual disruptive innovation awards. Beck is, indeed, disruptive to rational political discourse; so that seems fair enough. Beck's particular prize? Somehow, Beck was awarded the Charles Darwin Prize. Yes, anti-evolutionary propagandist Glenn Beck wins the Charles Darwin Prize, and because of something Beck said during an interview with Aryeh Bourkoff of the investment bank, LionTree, after the awards ceremony, Beck got the "pushback of the day" from Fox, his former employer.

It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world

So Glenn Beck, who does not believe in the science of evolution, was given the Charles Darwin Prize. The prize was awarded by The Economist, but queries to Tribeca as to who nominated Beck for that particular prize, one of several prizes offered, have not been returned. Glenn Beck wins the Charles Darwin Prize. What next, the king of predator drones and hellfire missiles wins the Nobel Peace Prize?  Oh, right.

Fox News and Beck's "Soul"

In the interview with Bourkoff, Beck made some comments that lead a Fox "News" spokesman to fire back a response. Beck said:
If you stay in it too long, you become Norma Desmond...I remember feeling ... If you do not leave now, you won’t leave with your soul intact.
It is not for this Review to make the case as to whether Beck had a soul or not, but Politico's Mike Allen received a response for Beck's assertion:
Glenn Beck wasn't trying to save his soul, he was trying to save his ass. Advertisers fled his show and even Glenn knows what that means in our industry. Yet, we still tried to give him a soft landing. Guess no good deed goes unpunished.
NewsCorpse offers great two insights about this "pushback" from Fox:
That response is interesting for a couple of reasons beyond the obvious slap in the face to Beck. First, it ought to make things a little uncomfortable for Bill O’Reilly, who is the only Fox host who still invites Beck back to the network. Is Beck still welcome? Will Bill mention that his bosses regard Beck as an ungrateful loser?
Secondly, this unidentified Fox spokesman has confirmed something that Fox has denied for years: that Beck’s racist and rancid antics cost the network advertisers and revenue. The company line at Fox was that “there has been no revenue lost.” But clearly that was not the case, as they now admit.
Tip of the hat to StopBeck.com's Angelo Carusone. Because Fox News president, Roger Ailes, was not and never has been particularly forthright about what happened, the conjecture here was that Beck's contract was terminated early because Ailes did not want Beck influencing the Republican primaries that would have been in debate phase in December 2011. There is no evidence that the race for president accounts in any way for Beck's premature departure. Conjecture is best left for Mr. Beck.

The Charles Darwin Prize?

Beck accepted this prize on a weekend after a week during which the central issue of his media empire, BlazeTV, was his effort to have President Obama impeached. That claim from Beck revolved around a Saudi student who was wounded in the Boston Patriot's Day bombings. Because Mr. Beck claimed to have sources higher up in the Obama administration, he was making the case that the FBI, Dept. of Homeland Security, the State Dept. and other government agencies were hiding information and allowing this "suspect," who Beck claimed was documented as "armed and dangerous," to go free, cleared of any suspicion. This is the young man Beck used to further his agenda and rouse the Tea Party/9-12ers to contact their congressman and get this investigated!

What's that have to do with Darwin?

Couldn't Tribeca have come up with a better prize for the anti-intellectual, deceitful propagandist than the scientist who first grasped the understanding that species evolve. The other prizes they rewarded were:
  • Lifetime Achievement Award. That would not be appropriate for Beck since he switched from Morning Zoo DJ to  morning zoo talk radio less than 15 years ago.
  • Manchester Prize for Urban Innovation. Beck is more about rural status quo and nostalgia.
  • Henry IV Prize: That's a distinct possibility since Beck is an extreme reactionary. This is especially interesting possibility since it was awarded to creator of I F*cking Love Science/Science is Awesome, Elise Andrew. She did not get the Darwin Prize.  Why not?
  • The Schumpeter Prize was awarded to Forbes Magazine which explains how this quote from Beck got such wide spread coverage. Beck probably has no idea who Joseph Schumpeter was or what his understanding promoted.
There were many more nameless awards given to people with impressive accomplishments, and they were all under the umbrella of "disruptive innovations". It is water under the bridge now, but Tribeca shocks with the choices for the Henry IV Prize and the Charles Darwin Prize. It is as if they got smashed at a party and selected which prize belongs to whom by dart toss. Beck most certainly deserves to be recognized by Tribeca, but what the hell could possibly be the rationale of giving Glenn Beck the Charles Darwin Prize?

Anti science propagandist get Charles Darwin Prize.

Today, Beck did not mention a word about Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi. Beck spent last week destroying a young man's life, ended that week accepting a prize he did not deserve and moved on to his next topic exploited to further his reactionary, backward agenda. What the hell?

Beck's claims about the 212 3B "event file" are bogus

Home Disclaimer Contents For Glenn Beck Share This URL
“Jay Tapper is fantastic and I think he’s one of the only people that is actually goes after and asks the tough questions.”
~~Glenn Beck

In the aftermath of the Boston terrorist bombings, which the authorities have determined was allegedly undertaken by two American emigrants from Chechnya, Glenn Beck has been feverously working to implicate another man, Saudi student Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, in these attack. Beck's biggest piece of "evidence" so far is a supposed "event file," a "212 3B" document, created Beck claims, during the questioning of Alharbi while he was in the hospital being treated for injuries sustained in the attack. The problem with Beck's claims is that they are, once again, false.

TheBlaze Readers Respond to Saudi National Boston Marathon Bombing Story
An alleged photograph of part of the event file created on Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi.

"Right-wing watch," a project of the liberal People for the American Way, point out that Beck's own guest undermined Beck's false claims about this 212 3B document that Beck is using to smear this student.

It's important to understand what Beck's own guest, retired Immigration and Naturalization Service Special Agent named Bob Trent, said here on Beck's own show last Wednesday, 4/24:

Trent: The Immigration and Nationality Act Section 212 (a)(3)(B) deals with terrorism and its the inadmissibility charges.  So we're talking about something that should be tagged on somebody before they come to the United States.  It's a tag that says this person is inadmissible because they're connected with terrorism.
[...]
Beck: Last Tuesday, at 4:35, after searching his house for, I think, nine hours, interviewing his roommates for five hours, they call up and talk to these two watch commanders and say look, here's the evidence, we need to make him a 2123B.  How do you think that happened?
Trent: Well, it doesn't make sense.  It seems to me that 212 tag was placed on a file prior to this event in Boston where they were going to try to block him from entering into the United States and the No Fly is a subsystem of the watch list that is maintained by the National Counterterrorism Center.  So now that they know he's in the United States, the proper tag would have been a charge under deportation clauses, which would have been section 237 of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

"...it doesn't make sense.Beck's own expert undermined his false claims about this document, but that did not stop Mr. Beck from pushing forward with this deceitful effort to fool his gullible followers. Beck's "friend." Bill O'Reilly, had Beck on his show the next night, and Beck was still pushing this document that is NOT what he falsely claims it is.

Beck is not what he claims to be, a truth teller

Beck's conspiracy theory has rested on the assertion that Alharbi received a 212 3B terrorist designation after being questioned in connection to the Boston bombing, but Trent made it quite clear during the interview that this timeline "doesn't make sense" as 212 3B is designed to prevent foreign nationals, who could pose a threat to the U.S., from entering the country.  212 3B is not something they are designated with after they are here and questions about possible engagement with terrorism.

All Beck's followers need to see is that People for the American Way is "liberal," and they will automatically dismiss the understanding conveyed by Beck's own guest. That is what Beck and much of the right-wing media complex have programmed them to believe. If this blog so much as uses a recording of Beck in his own words that was made available by the liberal Media Matters of America, then the Review is dismissed, as Beck has programmed his followers to do, as "leftist." Facts, however, are facts, and Bob Trent was correct about a 212 3B file. Either somebody is playing Beck as a fool with this photograph he's using, or Beck is simply making up an alternative reality...again.

However, it is not just Right-wing Watch who are exposing Beck as a deceiver in this campaign against Alharbi. US News reported on the 17th:
"He was never categorized as a suspect; he was a person of interest. My understanding is that he totally cooperated and that he is no longer a person of interest," said U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., after a two-hour Senate Intelligence Committee meeting with Director of National Intelligence James Clapper Tuesday afternoon, Foreign Policy reports.
Again, Beck's followers would dismiss US News as "mainstream media" and therefore "liberal." Chambliss? He was misinformed.  They would argue that the Director of National Intelligence is in on this "plot" against Americans that Beck implies Alharbi will be involved in. That is, along with the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI. If you doubt that, go to Beck's website and read the comments from his followers. They are gullible because they believe what they want to believe, and Obama, a "Marxist" according to Beck, is in on this plot to destroy America, on ongoing theme for Mr. Beck from his days on Fox "News" channel of propaganda.

Why is Beck waging this deceitful campaign against this cleared Saudi student? Originally, Beck claimed that the information he had would cause a movement to rise up and have President Obama impeached over the White House "involvement" with the release of this "very bad, bad, bad man" as Beck deceitfully described Alharbi on April 19th. Beck rails against the strategy "the ends justifies the means," but Beck has destroyed this witness' life in order to rouse the rabble who believe his blather to demand the president's impeachment.

rabble rouser

Hypocrisy?  Oh hell yes, and that is nothing new from this deceitful, reactionary propagandist that millions of far-right Americans are gullible enough to believe and trust. Beck's network, BlazeTV uses the slogan, "The truth lives here;" and that is the biggest lie that Beck conveys, over and over and over. As Goebbels said: “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.

CNN's Jake Tapper

Update, 4/30/2013: Glenn Beck admires Jake Tapper's work, and this is what Tapper has written about this subject:

The Department of Homeland Security tells CNN that there has been some confusion and misreporting regarding the Boston Marathon bombing and two Saudi nationals.
One is in a Boston hospital, and has been questioned by the FBI because he was at the marathon during the terrorist attack.
He is not a suspect, nor is he a person of interest. He was an individual at the marathon, and therefore, like so many individuals, has been questioned.
There is a second Saudi national from the Boston area who is in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody for being in violation of his visa. This case has nothing to do with the Boston Marathon, DHS officials said.

That won't satisfy Beck, who has oddly dropped the mention of this Saudi student lately, and it certainly will not satisfy the likes of YouTube ranting reactionary Beckerhead, Shelly Dankert

Update, 5/12/2013: On May 9th, Beck reminded himself (during a discussion about the three women who were liberated from the house in Cleveland) about his Boston bombing conspiracy theory and "declare that Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, the Saudi national whom Beck has accused of being an al Qadea "control agent" who recruited the Tsarnaev brothers to carry out the bombing, was "the money man" who financed the entire operation." Watch the deer-in-the-headlights look on Mr. Beck's face when asked by his co-host, Stu Burguiere, if this is speculation or reporting of facts. It's priceless, and, of course, Mr. Beck does not answer the question. Via Right Wing Watch:

Bill O'Reilly's demonstrates hypocrisy by ignoring Beck, his guest!

Home Disclaimer Contents For Glenn Beck Share This URL
"Intelligence is quickness in seeing things as they are."
- George Santayana

In the aftermath of the Boston bombing attack, the right-wing media has demonstrated extraordinary hypocrisy. They pretend that most voters do not remember the national unity that existed for the most part after 9/11, and hope that their hypocrisy will not somehow get noticed. In this apparently ethically challenged thrust of un-American fear-mongering, far-right cranks, Alex Jones and Glenn Beck, have taken the forefront in this disturbingly paranoid approach to "information" about the Boston bombers. Whereas Jones is making the absurd case that the bombing is a "false flag" operation that the FBI was behind, Beck has argued that the government is in cahoots with a "suspect," (Beck's word for a one-time person of interest) who the FBI let return to Saudi Arabia (although Beck does not seem to know where he is).

Alex Jones and Glenn Beck

This post is more about the right-wing media in general and Fox "News' " Bill O'Reilly, Beck's "friend," specifically. An article about both Beck and O'Reilly was covered by the media blog, Mediaite.

Via Mediaite:

Beck did believe that the young Saudi is a "very bad, bad, bad man," but toned it down for Fox. Beck's defenders would argue that Beck has changed his mind about  Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi despite the acquisition of this document he is showing O'Reilly. This summary makes Beck seem like a reasonable, concerned investigative reporter, but the idea that the FBI would be in collusion to release a "connected" "armed and dangerous" young Saudi smacks of utter absurdity of a psychotic paranoid. This is not so for fans of Beck as in evidence on his website:

"I am sure." Uh huh. If Beck implies that, it must be "true."

E-mail to the FBI and Facebook contact with  Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi for replies to Beck's accusations have gone unanswered .

Update regarding AbdulRahman: he did now reply writing, "Shame on him. What I can say is that he destroyed my life without any evidence." More clarification is requested.

Another comment on Beck's website assists in the transition to the real topic of this post: the right's hypocritical reaction to this tragic event in Boston.

Remember 9/11? This is Fox's O'Reilly criticizing liberals on his show in the aftermath of this terrible event. Once again, via Mediaite:

Hard to believe that Fox "News" gave the racist, ignorant Glenn Beck, a national platform for 20 months and ongoing during visits to O'Reilly's show. Enough of Beck's followers claim that Obama is a Muslim that it's hard to believe O'Reilly is so blind to his own part in this absurd criticism given the degree that the President has ramped up the drone war against Muslims around the world. "At the end of the day," O'Reilly is a blatant hypocrite. O'Reilly has Beck on his show spouting nonsense, and allows Beck to make the unchallenged, absurd claim that there is a conspiracy among the Saudis, The White House, the DHS and the FBI to release a Muslim jihadi, a "very bad, bad, bad man" according to Glenn Beck. For Beck, Obama is a Marxist communist in cahoots with the Saudis to harm Americans and/or destroy the country; and O'Reilly has the gall to complain about what MSNBC's Alex Wagner said about his fear-mongering!

Ideologues like Fox "pundit" O'Reilly do not seem to begin to grasp the very shaping of a "reality" that their own bias creates for them nor how their rhetoric shapes the "reality" of their listeners. It is very challenging to step outside of one's bias, but that is what objectivity and non-partisan framing for news stories requires. However, it's was not just the right-wing media that attempted to exploit this tragedy for propaganda purposes this week. Others on the right engaged in despicable behavior this week.

Natalie Maines

Remember when Dixie Chicks', Natalie Maines, said, "We're ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas?" The right raised hell about that expression. The response this week from Beck, A. Jones, Fox "News," Rush Limbaugh, Senator Graham (R, SC) and former Bush attorney general Michael Mukasey,  attacking President Obama for a variety of reasons, has been astonishing for so-called "patriots." In the immediate aftermath of a terrible crime against the United States, these sleazy opportunists are showing hypocrisy by saying far worse than anything Maines stated, and unlike Bush's war on Iraq, Obama had no part in this attack (outside of the bizarre worlds of Beck and Jones).  These pseudo-patriots "... contradict themselves, ignore their own records, jump to paranoid conclusions, risk embarrassment and generally do whatever it takes to disrupt and sabotage the Obama presidency" according to HuffPo columnist, Bob Cesca. And herein lies the rub for ideologues, for those who put politics before country. Cesca is a "leftist," a "libral" or "prog" as Beck's programmed listeners might argue to dismiss his observations. What else would you expect? How about truth for a change instead of absurd "conjecture" on the part of the extremists elements in the media such as Mr. Beck?

They are shameful, and they should be shamed by the American people. O'Reilly's ratings this week are shameful, and what the hell does that have to do with truth anyway? Beck had huge ratings of Fox, and his rantings were wrongly considered "insane" because his nonsense is so divorced from reality. Not everyone on the right are despicable hypocrites, but the double standards of many and the hypocrisy of too many should help "low information voters" better understand just one reason why Fox "News" generally and Beck specifically have no credibility and are NOT  reliable sources from which folks should take information from. It should help, but being a "low information voter" means never having or wanting to find out the truth.

If one is so cynical and paranoid as to believe that the FBI is out to destroy the United States, then one has to give up on the concept of homeland security. Shame on Glenn Beck for making that argument. Shame on Bill O'Reilly for letting him. The BlazeTV: the shameful, reactionary propaganda lives there. Fox "News:" they report propaganda, you decide what can be believed.

Beck jumps shark, but falls short: CHOMP CHOMP

Home Disclaimer Contents For Glenn Beck Share This URL
Last Friday, five days after the terrorist bombings in Boston, Glenn Beck claimed that America should "demand impeachment" of President Obama for a government cover-up of a Saudi student's role in the attack. That was yet another example of Beck "jumping the shark." Over the weekend, we found the most likely source of Beck's misinformation, an Islamophobe named Walid Shoebat, and offered video from CNN that exposed him as a liar and a fraud. On Monday, Beck did not cite Shoebat, but claimed that he had a source high up in the administration. As of last night's show on the BlazeTV, Beck admitted to his employee, Buck Sexton, that all he has is "conjecture." Splash! Beck doesn't clear the shark.

"Jumping the shark" is  "an idiom created by Jon Hein that was used to describe the moment in the evolution of a television show when it begins a decline in quality that is beyond recovery, which is usually a particular scene, episode, or aspect of a show in which the writers use some type of "gimmick" in a desperate attempt to keep viewers' interest." Beck has made a living jumping the shark for years, but this time, even some of his own followers are disappointed in him.

The phrase, "jump the shark," comes from a scene from the TV series Happy Days. Via kmcnally's YouTube account:

weapon of mass distortion? See p. 2 (unseen)

On his BlazeTV show last night, after telling his gullible and obedient followers not to "listen to anyone else," Beck told Buck Sexton this about Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, the Saudi student who was questioned and cleared by the FBI while in the hospital recovering from burns suffered in the attack:
My thought is, Buck, and I have nothing to back this up, it's totally conjecture, but my thought is that this guy [Abdul Alharbi] is from a very prominent family, he came over here, and maybe he's a guy that is going into these Saudi mosques, and just looking for the nastiest of the nasty, and he can relate to them, and he's over here, and he kinda helps tweak them, and puts them in place and helps them become a home grown terrorist. Is that...does that sound crazy? [Emphasis in red added]
No, Mr. Beck; it sounds like slander and defamation of character. To his utter disgrace, Buck Sexton's reply was, "No, No; that's all plausible. I just can't say it's provable." Sexton must be getting a decent pay check from Mr. Beck to not call Beck out for this sleazy attack on this Saudi student.

Has Alharbi? and friends depicted behind them for this exchange

Beck knows that he has no reliable source who can back up his slander against Abdul Alharbi, so this morning, on the three stooges radio program, Beck actually said, "all these websites tried to smear me, to discredit us, last week and this past weekend by claiming we were blaming the Govt for the bombings.  This is why you need to know the truth.  Please call your cable companies...." That might be due to Beck's own words claiming that the government was covering up the fantasy of Beck's implication of Abdul Alharbi's involvement. In fact, it's right on last night's chalk board:

"Govt/administration is covering up action/info"

"Please call your cable companies." Always the huckster, even when under water with a shark gnawing on his limbs. Beck's attack on Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi is "totally conjecture," but that doesn't stop his most gullible and reactionary followers from hanging on his every word.

Photo
Alharbi and friends depicted on his Facebook page

Efforts to contact the Boston FBI and Alharbi himself for alternative versions of Beck's "conjecture" continue.

Beck believes he has information about "bombers" and calls for Obama's impeachment.

Home Disclaimer Contents For Glenn Beck Share This URL
Exploiting the tragedy in Boston this week, Glenn Beck is making waves in the media again, this time by claiming to know something about the Saudi "person of interest" who was interviewed by the FBI and cleared. He's claiming that there are "four" suspects. Below are two recordings from Mr. Beck, the first from his radio show captured by Media Matters for America and the second from his online video channel, BlazeTV. Finally, this Review is going to scoop Beck's Monday scoop by providing the source and list of alleged ties to the "person of interest" and al-Queda.

Via Media Matters:

Got that? President Obama should be impeached. "Suspect" number one, according to Beck, was NEVER a suspect. After being interviewed by the FBI and having his apartment searched, he was deemed not involved with this terrorist attack. Beck doesn't "believe anybody on TV anymore" which is interesting because he's on TV now through Dish Network satellite television. Care in crafting sentences is not Beck's forte. Beck claims that "our media is rooting for an American to be the killer." What station does he watch? Beck has made other false claims about the media, and this is no exception.

So Beck's "insight" regards the Saudi student, Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi. The government, according to Beck, is "aiding and abetting him." Beck thinks that Americans are going to believe anything that a proven liar says about a person of interest, who had nothing to do with this bombing, are going to demand that the President be impeached. Uh huh. Delusional much? Can you imagine how the right-wing media would have reacted if liberals on talk radio had said such a thing about President Bush within a week of the 9/11 attacks?

Jason Easley from Politicususa has it about right what he wrote:

"Glenn Beck and others on the right who are peddling their conspiracies and hate, are the antithesis of everything this country stands for. They are un-American, and a source of shame for us all."
But wait, there's more. Beck claims to have more that he's going to release this Monday if the Obama administration doesn't come clean. You can't make this stuff up. If you've stopped laughing from the recording of his radio show, listen to this from his TV channel of propaganda.
Via Right Wing Watch.org:

This seems like "number two" alright, and straight from a male bovine, but let's give Mr. Beck the benefit of the doubt. "What we do going forward from here will determine the fate of our nation." Hyperbolic much? Beck believes that Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi is "a very bad, bad, bad man." Beck should know; he's only inspired three attempted assassinations when he was on Fox, but I digress.

Not that it matters to Beck or his gullible followers, but The Hill has reported:
Administration officials told The Hill on Thursday that news reports about the student injured in the bombing are confusing him with another student from Saudi Arabia who was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement for violating his visa.
The first Saudi student is not a suspect in the Boston bombings but was hospitalized after the attack and questioned. Authorities also searched his apartment in Revere, a suburb of Boston.
This first Saudi student is Beck's "suspect number one." If you want to know what Beck is going to be releasing this Monday, see a post from Beck ally and anti-Islamist, Walid Shoebat entitled " 'Innocent' Saudi has several ties to Al-Qaeda Terrorists." This Islamaphobe, Showbat, attempts to associate Abdul Rahman to family members who are connected with al-Qaeda. In other words, if your uncle is a thief, then you must be a thief. This is one of many propaganda techniques that Beck uses, i.e., guilt by association. This is most likely going to be Beck's big scoop on this Saudi student.

More will be posted here as warranted.

Update #1. Glenn Beck has expressed respect for Cooper Anderson, and he is "keeping them honest." In this case, CNN looked into this Walid Shoebat character and his website.

Via CAIR tv:

Like Glenn Beck, this Shoebat seems to be passing himself off as something he's not.

Update, 4/21/2013: A reliable source has conveyed to this Review that an assistant to a member of the Saudi Royal Family told her:
...the Saudi kids' last name, while some in his extended family HAVE been associated with terrorism, has 'thousands' in the Middle East with that name.  She said that if the kid himself were in ANY way connected to terrorist activities, that Saudi would publicly "disown him"-that they wouldn't risk "the tenuous bond between the two countries;  his family is not THAT important".
When this assistant was told about the probable source of this "information" about Alharbi, she asked, "...if 'that liar,' [Walid Sheobat] is still being paid by US taxpayers to 'spread his hate' ". Since the link to this story has been posted on Beck's Facebook page, which, oddly enough, does not even mention this bombshell that Beck is supposedly conveying tomorrow morning, and website multiple times, it is very possible that Beck's team is scrambling to find other sources to "report" on Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi.

On the CNN Sunday program, Reliable Sources, no one mentioned The BlazeTV or Glenn Beck. More to come as day breaks and Beck shares his "information" about this Saudi student, who wants, according to one source, to stay in the United States longer. Will Mr. Beck make this impossible? Stay tuned to this post for updates as Beck's propaganda warrants.

Update, 4/22/2013: Today on Beck's radio show, Beck conveyed no new information about this Saudi student. He did claim, twice, that he has a source "high up in the administration." The first time he mentioned this supposed source, he claimed that the source could get 20 years in prison for talking with Beck. In the next hour, Beck claimed that this source could be killed for talking to Beck.

There are two possibilities here. Either Beck is lying again and has no source in the administration, or someone in the administration is playing Beck for a fool. Although the latter theory would be poetic justice, it's not likely. More likely is that Beck knows that his "source," Walid Shoebat, has been exposed as a liar and a fraud leaving Beck with little to base his conspiracy theory on.

Update, 4/23/2013: The selection of what to add for today is a matter of complete bias. Beck's "news" site, TheBlaze, is reporting on an recorded exchange in a Senate conference hearing between Secretary Napolitano and Senator Grassley (R, IA).

Responding to a question from Grassley, she said:

“Before the [Tsarnaev] brothers became the focus of the investigation, authorities questioned a Saudi student who reportedly was on a terror watch list,” Grassley said. “I sent a letter to you this morning asking for answers to questions about the bombers and how they interacted with your agency, I trust you will promptly respond…”
“With regard to the Saudi student, was he on a watch list, and if so, how did he obtain a student visa?” Grassley asked.
Napolitano firmly responded: “He was not on a watch list. What happened is — this student was, really when you back it out, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was never a subject. He was never even really a person of interest. Because he was being interviewed, he was at that point put on a watch list, and then when it was quickly determined he had nothing to do with the bombing, the watch listing status was removed.”
The Secretary is not to be believed when you don't trust the government. Beck continued to rouse the rabble by asking more of his particular blend of honest and mostly dishonest questions:

Beck has NOTHING on this Saudi student, and a few of his followers are picking up on this. From yesterday on Beck's website:

It bears stressing that many comments are supportive and others "helpful." Some of Beck's fans have heard on Facebook that Alharbi is bin Laden's son. Yep. Beck's supporters are THAT gullible. It's nice to see BillHughes13 wake up to the scam that is Glenn Beck's war on the general understanding of reality.  Beck doesn't trust what he hears on TV, but who can listen to this and trust Glenn Beck?
