Beck's deceptions demonstrates the validity of Media Matters' war on Fox

Home Disclaimer Contents For Glenn Beck Share This URL
Last weekend it was revealed in an article on Politico that the liberal media watchdogs, Media Matters for America, is waging "an all-out war of guerrilla warfare and sabotage" on Fox "News." Glenn Beck's reaction to this report demonstrates, in its multi-folded dimensions, why guerrilla warfare and sabotage makes sense to expose Fox for what it is: a political operation far more focussed on propaganda supporting conservative Republicans and reactionary, Tea Party Republicans and opposing Democrats and the left in general. However, announcing the tactics in a news outlet goes against the fundamentals of The Art of War.

Politico wrote over the weekend:
The liberal group Media Matters has quietly transformed itself in preparation for what its founder, David Brock, described in an interview as an all-out campaign of “guerrilla warfare and sabotage” aimed at the Fox News Channel.
The article continued:
“The strategy that we had had toward Fox was basically a strategy of containment,” said Brock, Media Matters’ chairman and founder and a former conservative journalist, adding that the group’s main aim had been to challenge the factual claims of the channel and to attempt to prevent them from reaching the mainstream media. The new strategy, he said, is a “war on Fox.”
“These people are actually talking about guerrilla warfare and actually talking about sabotage,” Beck reportedly said. Yes, Glenn Beck is facing tactics that are aimed to counter the ignorant nonsense, vitriol and purposeful lies that he spews on a routine basis. This response from Beck was conveyed on his radio show and reported on his website under the headline, "George Soros's Media Matters vows to "sabotage" FOX News." "Soros's"? First, since they felt the need to deceive, it should have been Soros' Media Matters,  not "Soros's." However, it is David Brock's Media Matters; but Beck and his tear prefer deception and dishonesty to genuine and honest discussion with his website readers and radio listeners. That is how he operates, and Beck is especially talented at deception and convincing propaganda with a reactionary agenda. Earth to Glenn Beck's empire: Media Matters for America was founded by David Brock, not George Soros.

exceptionally talented deceiver

The headline writer on Beck's own "news" site newsletter, FIREWIRE, also deceived its readers. It stated, "SOROS FUNDS SABOTAGE OF THE FREE PRESS." According to the story on Politico, a "Soros associate said the financier, who gave Media Matters $1 million last year, did not earmark it for the Fox campaign. Soros suggested in a recent CNN interview that the Fox depictions of him as a sinister media manipulator would better be applied to Murdoch." Soros did not fund this strategy or effort, and one could question whether Fox "News" is a free press or a propaganda outfit committed to undermining the informed citizenry needed for any democratic order.

Beck went on his Fox show to claim that “These guys are going to exploit…they’re coming for you…blackmail….mob-like tactics.” No; that is more deception on Beck's part. No one is going to have a gun pointed at their head and told to tell a Media Matters investigator to tell all they know about Glenn Beck or Bill O'Reilly or else. On his Fox show Monday, Beck stated, "Originally [Media Matters] stated their mission was just to correct conservative misinformation in the media…and now it’s quote guerilla warfare and sabotage. I don‘t even think that’s legal but I’m not an attorney.”  Beck usually smears Media Matters and has never previously claimed that they just "correct conservative misinformation."

It is a rare admission on Beck's part to admit ignorance and not pass judgment on a matter. The legal issue that Beck questions is the 501(3)(c) tax status of Media Matters for America. This status forbids them from engaging in any form of political activity, and whether "an all-out war of guerrilla warfare and sabotage" on Fox is deemed political or not may well end up before a judge. Beck is not an attorney; that is a fact. Glenn Beck is also not a political theorist, a Middle East expert, a foreign affairs expert, a labor expert or a theologian; but he doesn't usually let a lack of knowledge on various topics stop him from yammering on for four hours every weekday about that for which he is not qualified to address. Glenn Beck is exceptionally talented at being a reactionary blowhard, and that is good enough for millions of his followers indifferent to Beck's lack of qualifications, facts and ethical integrity. Hypocrites lack ethical integrity, and Beck routinely demonstrates hypocrisy regarding his own stated principles.

On The Blaze, Beck's own media source was this:

Interesting, "The Blaze" uses Media Matters' recordings to convey Beck's own words! Regarding Beck's paranoia, the "major investigation" is still under way and the investigator is a) not an employee of Soros and b) has found a skeleton in Mr. Beck's closet.  (Stay "tuned" to this Review for more on this at a later date.)

Beck warns his employees: "I want you to listen to this, and I would like everybody in Mercury to listen to this as well: If anybody is not living a clean life, you better start living a clean life because these guys and this is everybody at Fox and anybody who stands with the Tea Party. These guys are going to exploit. And so if they can get in, this is politicians have known this for a long time. They’re just now doing it to the average person.” Once again, this is not factual. "These guys," i.e., Media Matters, are not going to "exploit ... anyone who stands with the Tea Party" except employees of Fox "News" and Rupert Murdoch's NewsCorp who should NOT be standing with any party.

By announcing their strategy and tactics, Media Matters gave up the elements of stealth and surprise. By telling Ben Smith at Politico what they are about to undertake, David Brock undermined their own effort! Now Fox is on notice. Now, people at Fox may be more careful about what they claim to be fact. That, if it happens that way, would make the announced strategy an automatic success.

However, now forewarned, Fox staffers including Beck and members of his growing media empire will take care to behave legally, ethically and watch their manners. However, as shown here, the evidence, to date, does not indicate that Beck, at any rate, or his staff have any intention to stop misleading his listeners. More deceptions any hypocrisy and more fact finding by researchers at Media Matters and elsewhere to demonstrate that Beck's claims are false or hypocritical will continue, and Beck will certainly continue to smear Media Matters for America. So it goes.

Glenn Beck suggests that it is "dangerous" to call Americans "demons"...

to demonstrate his 20th documented hypocrisy.

Home Disclaimer Contents For Glenn Beck Share This URL
On his Fox News show yesterday, Glenn Beck questioned Louis Farrakhan's demonizing of Americans. The following, then, is a press release from the liberal media watchdogs, Media Matters for America. As you read this example of Beck's hypocrisy, the 20th in 10 months of close scrutiny from this Review, ask yourself how someone who claims to have values and principles can turn around and violate his own principles, values and standards on a fairly regular basis. If anyone has an answer -- besides the stated conclusion of this reviewer, i.e., that he is nothing more that a fraud with no real principles, -- by all means leave a comment with your take on this phenomenon, the self-proclaimed "rodeo clown," Glenn Beck.

More Hypocrisy: Glenn Beck Takes Issue With Calling Opponents "Demons"

Prompted by Louis Farrakhan's remark that America is a "habitation of devils," Glenn Beck asked, "[W]hat happens when you can convince enough people" that something is "full of demons"? Beck himself has a long history of linking progressives to "the devil" and calling them "enemies of God."

Beck Suggests It Is "Dangerous" To "Call Americans 'Demons' "

Beck: "What Happens When You Can Convince Enough People" Something Is Demonic? From Beck's Fox News show:
BECK: And then we have the truly spooky stuff that happened over the weekend. There is new video evidence produced by the Iranian regime that says the current unrest in the Middle East is a sign that the Mahdi, or the Islamic messiah, is about to appear. They're calling this video The Coming is Near. By the way, this program maintains that he is the opposite -- exact opposite of good and bad in the Book of Revelation.
But that's not the way Louis Farrakhan sees things, because, over the weekend, Louis Farrakhan was also quoting -- you know, he's a Muslim -- quoting the Book of Revelation. Farrakhan is saying that America now is the Great Satan, or saying that it is now full of demons -- you and me. Watch.
FARRAKHAN [video clip]: America's not filled with human beings. America's filled with beasts. She has become, as John the Revelator said, the habitation of devils.
BECK: OK. So what happens when you can convince enough people -- or at least one people; oh, what do you say, 18 people -- that America is full of nothing but beasts?
Remember, anybody who mentions Jesus is dangerous. But listen to Farrakhan. Calling Americans "demons" -- I don't know how many were here, but a couple of weeks ago, it was in front of 18,000 people.
And here he is quoting scripture. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 3/28/11]

Beck Has A History Of Linking Progressives To "The Devil"

Beck Compared Progressives To Satan. From Glenn Beck's radio show:
BECK: If you believe in the, you know, the war in heaven, where the -- you know, a third of the angels were cast out and all of that stuff, it was about man's choice.
CALLER: Yes.
BECK: And he would provide a savior. And Satan's plan was, "Hey, I'll save everybody. Give me the credit. Give me the credit, I'll save everybody. I'll make sure that everybody returns home. It's going to be fantastic. I'll -- you just take away their choice and give me the credit." Well, gee, I think that plan was rejected, and that's because God knew that failure was important for growth. He knew that we would fail and he would provide the failure so when we hit the bottom, we would have a chance -- we would know there was hope for the only thing that really matters, and that is redemption. Eternal redemption.
But the progressives have so cut out God. And I showed you yesterday on television and last week on the radio that they have replaced God. They're taking -- rights are now created by Congress. Rights are not given to us by our Creator. They're created by Congress. They are taking the role of God. And so they're taking away our suffering. They're taking away all of our pain, all of the opportunity to fail. People look at failure in exactly the wrong way. Failure is the starting point of real, true success. If you don't fail, you really don't have a lot of wisdom. [Premiere Radio Networks, The Glenn Beck Program, 1/12/10]
Beck Suggested Obama's Policy Ideas Come From Lucifer. From the August 4, 2010, edition of Fox News'Glenn Beck:
BECK: That's right, Mr. President, we're dummies. We don't have a single new idea. Yeah, you know what? Republicans don't have a lot of new ideas. They're a lot of retread ideas. That's why I think, Mr. President, you should talk to those Tea Party people. 'Cause they've got some really new ideas they haven't tried in about, oh, 150 years. 'Course, now, your ideas -- your ideas, they're brand new. Boy, when I first heard your ideas about-- 1848? Trying to think, when did Karl Marx write that stuff down? Oh, no, seriously. You've got ideas that have unquestionably failed, and failed spectacularly, every time they've been tried. No, I know, I know, "Oh, they've just never been done right."
[...]
BECK: Giving a few people power to save the collective -- you know, I've been thinking about this. It's not even Marxism. Mm-mmm. Older than 1848. Yeah. Lot older. Maybe the oldest idea known to man. "I will save them all." Where have I heard that? "I will save them all. And they will return to you. Give me the credit." Oh, that's good, that's good. I've heard that someplace. Kind of the ends justify the means and uh, Saul Alinsk-- oh, you know what? I remember where I've heard that. It wasn't Saul Alinsky, but I read about it in his book. Who did Saul Alinsky dedicate his book to? It was, um --
Beck then displayed the following image on the screen behind him. For the video clip, click here.
Lucifer
[Fox News, Glenn Beck, 8/4/10]
Beck: Obama's "Evil" "Collective Salvation" "Is From Satan ... From The Devil." On his radio show, Beck claimed that the doctrine of collective salvation derives from "the devil, not God" and said that Obama "talking about his collective salvation" "is evil":
BECK: We were just talking in the break. We found some old audio that came out during the election that Pat played for me -- he's in charge of our audio vault. And I know I've heard it, but I didn't recognize the content -- or the context, really until now. Things are starting to fall into place, and when he played it, I hadn't heard it in its entirety in quite some time. And we were talking about collective salvation -- it is evil. Collective salvation -- excuse me for being a Jesus freak -- is from Satan. Collective salvation is from the devil, not God.
And we have some audio of the president talking about his collective salvation. His personal salvation will not happen unless there is collective salvation. That is evil. [Premiere Radio Networks,The Glenn Beck Program, 7/9/10]
Beck Likens Van Jones To "The Devourer": From Beck's radio show:
BECK: I was telling you about Van Jones, and I said, "Do we run with this? Do we run with this? Because we don't know for sure, but all evidence -- and I don't know if we can verify this, this, this, but look at the connection here." Most of it we did verify. Some of it we couldn't and we never put on. But I believe them to be true, but I don't say them because I couldn't nail them down. What stopped me from saying, "I can't prove these things, but"? I said to Pat -- I said, "Something's wrong. What do we do?" We both prayed. And we went home, and both of us prayed again, and then we both opened up our scriptures, unbeknownst to each other until the next morning.
And I couldn't wait to see Pat, because I had an answer. I said, "You won't believe what I found." And he said, "Wait, wait, wait. Me first. About our conversation yesterday. I looked in Malachai." Look it up. Malachai 3:11. I'm paraphrasing -- I shall rebuke the devourer for your sake. To me, this message was clear: "He's not an enemy of yours. How dare you think he's an enemy of yours? Freedom comes from me, God. Freedom, your rights, belong to me, not you. I will rebuke anyone who tries to devour them."
[...]
BECK: Read Ephesians 6:11 to 17. Ephesians 6:11 to 17. It's what we have to do. It's where we have to go. And it's what will save us. Use faith as your shield and put on the armor of God, and he will rebuke the devourer for our sakes'. [Premiere Radio Networks, Glenn Beck Program, 4/20/10]

Beck: Progressives Are "Enemies Of God"

Friend of the corporations

Beck: Progressives Are "Enemies Of God And Enemies Of Man's Freedom." During a segment on the July 14, 2010, edition of his Fox News show, Beck attacked "San Francisco radical Van Jones," liberation theology, President Obama, and Andy Stern. Beck also claimed "Michelle Obama told us exactly what Obama was going to do" when she said, "We're going to have to change our tradition, our history." He added:
BECK: We learn from our mistakes. We can't change our history into something that it wasn't, but it's happening. We've got to grab onto the truth and cling to it, but what is the truth? Well, the truth about the civil rights movement isn't the Black Panthers and the threats causing Congress to pass the civil rights, that's bull crap!
God did it, by working through people and inspiring people like Martin Luther King, and C.L. Jackson. And yes, white people like Bobby Kennedy and dare I say it, oh, my Gosh, I'm going to set the world on fire with this -- Roger Ailes.
I think he spent some time in the civil rights movement. He was with Martin Luther King a couple of times, people from both sides of the aisle, people of all kinds, all races, different levels of participation.
God led the cause because he is against oppression. But he does not conspire to work through hate groups. Stand up, stand together, stand with the truth. Stand with God. That is the one thing that they cannot fight. That is your only weapon is God. And he wields it, not you. You just stand behind him and just let him be your shield. It's the one thing that they don't have on their side. Now that's a pretty wild comment to make unless you go back to Saul Alinsky.
Do you know what the dedication says? Do you know what the front page says of this book?
Put it up here, "Lest we forget at least one over-the-shoulder acknowledgement to the very first radical from all of our legends, mythology and history and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins, or which is which, the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom."
You put this together with collective salvation. May I quote the pope? Put the pope, Pope Benedict, here is what he said about collective salvation: "Wherever politics tries to be redemptive, it is promising too much. Where it wishes to do the work of God, it becomes not divine but demonic."
Stand with God, America. Stand with God. He will be our shield. These are not enemies of ours. They are not enemies of ours. They're enemies of God and enemies of man's freedom. He'll work it out. You just stand where you're supposed to stand and be peaceful. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 7/14/10, via Nexis]
Beck: "You Need To Get Behind Him Because They Are Enemies Of Him." After playing an audio clip of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Beck had the following exchange with a caller:
CALLER: Hello, Glenn. I just want to thank you for your letting all of us know and bringing light to the fact that, you know, these people with this particular ideology are not our enemies. They are our heavenly father's.
BECK: Yes, they are.
[...]
BECK: So, what was it that woke you up to this? Or have you just been --
CALLER: Well, I'm a man of your faith. And, you know, I've been thinking that, and, you know, I've talked to people. But when you said it, it was just like a relief to me that this -- you know, I need to do what I need to do, you know?
BECK: Yeah. And you don't need to fight; you need to get behind him. You need to get behind him because they are enemies of him. [Premiere Radio Networks, The Glenn Beck Program, 7/15/10]
Beck: "The Policies That Are Being Enacted In Washington" Are "Enemies Of God." From Beck's radio show:
BECK: If you were at the American Revival on Saturday, that ain't nothing. That is nothing compared to what you're going to see on 8-28. Make sure you join us. Forty days and 40 nights. It is not about politics, because quite honestly, we are not dealing with politicians. These are not -- the policies that are being enacted in Washington -- they are not enemies of ours. They are enemies of God, because God is about freedom. God is about equal justice, not equal stuff in our homes. [Premiere Radio Networks, The Glenn Beck Program, 7/19/10]

Lawrence O'Donnell demonstrates that kind of commentary that you should but never will hear from Glenn Beck

...or anyone else at Fox "News."

Previously on this Review, the back and forth between Lawrence O'Donnell on his show, The Last Word, on MSNBC and Glenn Beck over Beck's pre-Enlightenment commentary about the disaster in Japan and about Beck's religious beliefs in general was covered. Last week O'Donnell did a re-write about how General Electric, part owner of MSNBC, did not pay any federal taxes last year. It turns out that the company that owns Fox "News," Rupert Murdoch's NewsCorp, also has had years without paying any federal taxes, but you will not hear that covered by Glenn Beck or anyone else at Fox "News." Listen to the clip from O'Donnell:

That's the commentary you'll never hear from Beck

The following piece is reprinted with permission of AltNet, and it covers the Fox "News/"NewsCorp side of this story. It was originally printed at News Corpse, The Internet's Chronicle of Media Decay.

Fox News Freaks Out Over GE's Taxes - While Doing The Same Thing

The New York Times published a disturbing article yesterday about how giant, multinational corporations are robbing the U.S. treasury (and people) by exploit tax loopholes and the political clout to obtain them. The marquee revelation in the article is that General Electric, who made $14 billion dollars worldwide last year ($5 billion domestically), paid ZERO dollars in taxes.
But guess What? They aren't the only one. Brought to you by...
The Internet's Chronicle Of Media Decay.
From the Times:
"Its extraordinary success is based on an aggressive strategy that mixes fierce lobbying for tax breaks and innovative accounting that enables it to concentrate its profits offshore. [...]
Although the top corporate tax rate in the United States is 35 percent, one of the highest in the world, companies have been increasingly using a maze of shelters, tax credits and subsidies to pay far less. [...]
Such strategies, as well as changes in tax laws that encouraged some businesses and professionals to file as individuals, have pushed down the corporate share of the nation's tax receipts - from 30 percent of all federal revenue in the mid-1950s to 6.6 percent in 2009."
This really doesn't qualify as a press-stopping scoop. The trend toward corporate domination of our nation's economy and politics has been evident for decades. Their success in wrangling beneficial treatment from Congress and the courts (i.e. Citizens United) through adept distribution of cash and favors has been decried in liberal circles repeatedly. But the effect of that criticism was itself suppressed by more corporate cash raining down on Tea Partiers, who have been exploited by AstroTurf inventions like Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks, to demonstrate against their own interests. Thanks, Koch brothers.
Nevertheless, it is good to see a mainstream media source shining a light on this repugnant unfairness orchestrated by wealthy special interests and their benefactors. However, there is a surreal quality to the reaction in the press to this article. Right-wing politicians and pundits are suddenly praising the Times for outing GE. Ordinarily they regard the Times as irremediably biased and unreadable, but if they are attacking another of the right's favorite foes they are considered sufficiently rehabilitated and trustworthy.
The most surreal response to this is the one emanating from Fox News. They have glommed unto this story like a shark on virgin surfer.
There were several reports on their daytime broadcasts. It was featured on their Fox Nation web site. And Bill O'Reilly devoted a segment to it complete with his trademark bluster and animosity toward his long-time nemesis GE and CEO Jeffrey Immelt, whom he has called "a despicable human being."
O'Reilly: Last year General Electric made 14 billion in profit worldwide, including $5 billion in profit in the USA. Yet General Electric paid zero - nothing - in taxes to the feds. As you know GE boss Jeffrey Immelt - big supporter of President Obama, and vice versa. [video] So the question is how could GE pay absolutely nothing to the government, and how could I get that deal?
Unsaid in all of this is that Fox News' parent company, News Corp, did get that deal. As I reported earlier this week, there was another Times article a few years ago that revealed that...
"By taking advantage of a provision in the law that allows expanding companies like Mr. Murdoch's to defer taxes to future years, the News Corporation paid no federal taxes in two of the last four years, and in the other two it paid only a fraction of what it otherwise would have owed. During that time, Securities and Exchange Commission records show, the News Corporation's domestic pretax profits topped $9.4 billion."
So the company that employs O'Reilly is banking almost twice the domestic profits of GE and paying nothing in taxes, yet they are the ones throwing tantrums and lobbing insults. This is the sort of behavior for which the word hypocrisy was coined.
I have no problem with Fox flogging GE over this issue, which is an important one that involves many more corporate scoundrels and deserves more attention. But it would have been nice if they could have at least acknowledged that they are engaging in the very same tax shenanigans as GE. However that would have required them to be an honest news provider, which is contrary to their mission.

Time to change the Fox News Slogan to Something like “We Distort, You Believe”

Home Disclaimer Contents For Glenn Beck Share This URL
The following piece is being republished with permission of the co-editor-in-chief of News Junkie Post (Making Sense of the News), Dolores M Bernal.  Originally titled, "What's Ailing Roger and His Fox Trots," this was written by Amy Beth Arkawy. Although originally published last November 18th, her perspective on Glenn Beck makes her wager near the end still relevant.

What’s Ailing Roger And His Fox Trots?

Roger Ailes

It’s so hard to merely dismiss that toxic fright wing propaganda machine known as Fox News. I try, I really try to simply ignore the lies, the hate, the twisted half-truths. It’s so easy to reside in a liberal bubble thinking, knowing that all sane, reasonable people know Fox News is not a legit news operation. Everyone with a modicum of sense knows that bloviators like O’Reilly, Hannity and Glenn Beck–especially Beck– are partisan hacks and maybe even crazy scary (especially Beck again). Heck, no one I know even watches the damn network. [Emphasis added]
Well, that last statement is not true. A lot of people watch. And some of them don’t seem–pardon the clinical term–nuts. A recent trip to Starbucks took a sour turn ( and it had nothing to do with the soy milk) as I got sucked into a conversation between two well-heeled retired men, charming old guys with whom I’ve shared many jovial conversations ( usually about things other than politics). One guy was singing the praises of Glenn Beck and his recent crusade against George Soros. “Looks like he’s loaded for bear, ” he said. “Yeah, he’s determined to stop Soros.
They’ve got to shut him down, ” the other one said.
Okay, I know I should have steered clear, but come on, I was sitting right there, and they know me, so I asked, “Why? Why do they have to shut Soros down.”
“Because he’s a Nazi,” the first guy said.
“What are you talking about? Soros isn’t a Nazi. Soros’ family was wiped out by Nazis,” I said. “You can’t believe everything (of course I meant anything) Glenn Beck says.”
“Well, maybe not, ” the second guy said. “I don’t watch that show too often.” Then he buried his head in Rupert Murdoch’s rag sheet “The New York Post.” ( which I, admittedly. also peruse for gossip and a few laughs).
“Still that Soros, ” the first guy wouldn’t let go. “Call him what you want to, but he’s one of Obama’s guys. He wants to redistribute the wealth. We’ve got to be vigilant. We’ve got to take back the country. Before it’s too late. ”
“You gotta stop watching Glenn Beck, ” I said. “Immediately if not sooner. And cut way back on the O’Reilly, too.”
“He’s on to something, just wait.”
This little interchange underscores the reason I can’t watch Beck with the bemusement I once enjoyed. I can no longer pretend the world sees him as that self-professed rodeo clown or a walking “Saturday Night Live” parody. A lot of people take him and all the Fox News partisan sludge seriously. That Faux News has long buried facts along with common sense and decency in its so called “Fair and Balanced” backyard continues to elude a hearty contingent of the cable news audience. [Emphasis added]
So it’s not surprising to discover the wind beneath the bloviators’ hot air, Fox News President Roger Ailes, is just as vitriolic as his clown princes. In an interview with The Daily Beast’s Howard Kurtz, Ailes railed against Jon Stewart, calling “The Daily Show” Host “crazy,” insisting he lives for “polarization. If there wasn’t polarization his show would bomb, ” he said.
And Fox is just telling it like it is. No agenda. Keep saying “Fair and Balanced,” and people–well enough people–will believe you. But the Emperor wasn’t done showing off his new clothes, of course. He had to whip out Fox’s not so secret weapon: the Nazi card. And wield it against another favorite Fox bogeyman, NPR....
...After receiving complaints from the Anti Defamation League for blithely trotting out the Nazi card, Ailes apologized, saying he “shouldn’t have used that term.” Of course, he couched it by claiming he was merely “ad-libbing.” I’m not sure how that excuses using the words Nazi or Nazism something like five times in one conversation. But Ailes is just following his fright wingers’ lead. Or is it the other way around? Either way, the strategy is the same. Shoot first. Apologize later. But only if it’s absolutely necessary.
And then whatever controversy you cook up can easily be spun into grubby ratings gold. That gold is about the only thing left to sell on Glenn Beck’s show, has a certain poetic irony that perhaps only weary liberals can appreciate. Well, that and freeze dried food for the bunkers where Beck and his paranoid followers will be residing once that Nazi New Order swings through town.
Believes his own hysteria?

I don’t know–or care–if Beck believes his own hysteria, but I’m willing to wager a box of that freeze-dried lasagna that Ailes knows its all theatrical fright wing fireworks. That he’s cynical enough to endorse such a dangerous game–and play it himself– takes shameful to a new despicable low. Time to change the Fox News Slogan for good. Something like “We Distort, You Believe,” sounds about right. Or fright.
