First, listen to Beck's words on his morning zoo version of political commentary.
Three points: 1) Beck accuses Soros of hypocrisy which is the classic person in a glass house throwing stones. 2) Beck told a horrific lie about Soros and 3) Soros was right about how lies and media propaganda helped turn the Wiemar Republic into Nazi Germany. Soros was there!
Then, of course, there is the insult of Reform Judaism that was given on top of a blatant lie about the diversity of rabbis who signed the letter calling on Fox owner, Rupert Murdoch, to sanction Glenn Beck. Listen to Uygur's commentary on this.
The Anti-Defamation League also reacted to Beck's absurd claim:
Glenn Beck's comparison of Reform Judaism to radical Islam demonstrates his bigoted ignorance. Despite his feeble attempt to suggest that he was not equating Reform Judaism with Islamic extremist terrorism, the simple fact that he would mention them in the same breath is highly offensive and outrageous.
The truth is that every religious body has political points of view, whether one agrees with them or not. To compare Reform Judaism, which supports democratic institutions, to Islamic extremism, which supports anti-democratic movements and the repression of basic rights - including, for example, the denial of women's rights - is beyond the pale.
Glenn Beck has no business discounting the faith of any people, and he should think twice before commenting on something he doesn't know much about. He owes the Reform movement an apology.
Beck did follow up in a rare apology and admission of ignorance on his part.
Yesterday, Jewish Funds For Justice released the following response to Glenn Beck's apology for his attacks on Reform Judaism:
GLENN BECK'S APOLOGY - NOT ENOUGHGlenn Beck's apology for comparing Reform Judaism to "Radicalized Islam" is welcome but incomplete. While we are heartened to hear him recognize his ignorance, he still has not acknowledged that the letter signed by 400 rabbis and organized by Jewish Funds for Justice represented a cross-section of denominations, including Orthodox, Conservative, Reconstructionist, and Renewal rabbis.Glenn Beck's characterization of Reform Judaism is in keeping with his longstanding hostility toward people who see their faith linked to pursuing the common good. This was made clear in March of 2010, when Mr. Beck advised people to leave their churches if their clergy spoke about social justice.Mr. Beck's demonization of his political opponents is a regular feature of his radio and television shows. This problem is systemic. His remarks about Reform Jews are only the most recent example of the attacks that occur daily on Beck's show.We reiterate our call for Rupert Murdoch to end Mr. Beck's tenure at Fox News and for Salem Communications to commit not to add his syndicated radio show to their New York stations. Anything short of this reflects an unwillingness to take seriously the harm Mr. Beck causes to many in our community and beyond.
There is growing opposition to Glenn Beck's reckless and irresponsible rhetoric growing across America, and it's not just coming from the left. Conservatives are also expressing deep concern about Beck's "disturbing personality." The following video clip comes from Morning Joe featuring Republican Joe Scarborough. He reads from the Wehner piece that was published in Commentary Magazine last Monday.
The list of conservatives recognizing that Glenn Beck is bad for their movement is growing: Joe Scarborough, Peter Wehner, Bill Kristol, Rick Lowry, Michael Orion Powell and John Fund along with reactionaries Pat Buchanan, Kurt Nimmo and far-right crank Alex Jones and the Orthodox rabbis who signed the letter asking to have Beck sanctioned.

out of control or superb propagandist?
So who on the right is still supporting Glenn Beck besides his gullible and manipulated listeners and viewers? The people, who prop Beck up and give him the stage on which he makes an utter fool of himself and the conservative movement, Fox manager Roger Ailes and Fox owner Rupert Murdoch are the ones allowing Beck to threaten our freedoms with his call to violence, his manipulative propaganda and his utter disregard for the facts. For the sake of freedom and our democratic order, take action today, now.
Update, 2/27/11: There are a lot of videos to watch in this post, but one more needs to be added just because it so effectively addresses Beck's "apology."
