Beck's webcast rant on Media Matters is one more example of his hypocrisy

Home Disclaimer Contents For Glenn Beck Share This URL
On August 6th, Media Matters for America, a progressive media watchdog organization, had a headline with an audio clip on a posting about Glenn Beck's sidekicks, Pat Grey and Stu Burguiere, who were sitting in for Beck on his radio show on August 6th. That clip took their remarks out of context in a manner that Andrew Breitbart did to Shirley Sherrod. On his website on August 10th, Beck takes them to task for their selective editing, but never mentioned that he did the same thing, only far more egregiously, along these lines to President Obama's G-20 press conference on June 29th. This is not just a double standard: it is sheer hypocrisy on Beck's part, another example that should - but does not - destroy his credibility among his morally righteous followers. It should also be addressed by the mainstream media, but they don't seem to have noticed Beck's baseless deception nor subsequent hypocrisy on this media matter.

The original headline at Media Matters was "Beck sidekicks Gray and Burguiere: Keith Olberman and media responsible for Manchester shooting," and their video clip excluded the following remark by either Grey or Burguiere that "Keith Olbermann was not responsible for any shooting.” That part was left out of the Media Matters audio clip because Media Matters cut the audio off right before Gray and Burguiere made that clear.

Since then, Media Matters of America has changed that headline to "Beck sidekicks equate linking Beck to CA shooter with blaming Olbermann for Manchester rampage," and extended the audio clip to include the clarification about this that the two made. Here's the full audio from Media Matters now.

Media Matters also added a comment, "CORRECTION: The original headline on this clip did not make clear that Beck's co-hosts were being satirical when they linked MSNBC host Keith Olbermann to the Manchester shooting. The original clip also did not include their subsequent statements that Olbermann was not responsible for the shooting. Media Matters regrets the error."

On his webcast of August 10th, Beck excoriates Media Matters:

"I'll show you one of [progressive's] blatant lies next...." Beck first makes a sales pitch for Carbonite.com, a company that apparently has not joined well over 100 others in the boycott against Beck. He then continues:

Now speaking of dorks in their mom's basement, Media Matters...They edited Stu and Pat wildly out of context, and here's the edited clip. [He plays the original segment Media Matters posted without the clarification his sidekicks went on to make.] That's where Media Matters left it. Unfortunately, for them, here's the rest of the clip. [Beck played the remaining remarks they made which Media Matters now includes in their clip.] Kind of helpful to include that part, no? This issued a statement saying they regret the error. That was an error? My response to that is, 'Media Matters baseless said they regret doing baseless doing smear campaigns that they do on a daily basis...They don't regret it. The ends justifies the means to progressives. Their only goal is to discredit you, me or anybody else, any conservative that stands in their way. Maybe even, you know, get us off the air. This is a group literally created by Hillary Clinton. [Quoting no one specifically] 'Glenn Beck baselessly  smears and distorts.' Baselessly? Really? Roll the tape: [Video of Mrs. Clinton speaking] '...progressive infrastructure, institutions that I helped start, like Media Matters and Center for American Progress...' [Beck cutting her off] Ah yes, the woman who models herself after the early 20th century progressives like Woodrow Wilson. So, she was involved in creating Media Matters. And they are funded by a George Soros front group that's hiding behind another George Soros front group. That's all these guys are, a political mouthpiece. And that's great, you know. You can be a progressive hack site if you want to be. Just be honest and upfront about who you really are. Until then, no need to apologize, because, ha ha ha, I know you, and you don't mean it.

Beck's criticism would not ring so hallow if he would express regret for "Breitbarting" (yes, it has become a verb now) President Obama's G-20 press conference on June 29th. On his show that day, Beck not only pieced two unrelated video clips together, but he proceeded to turn Obama's call for a "level playing field" for trade with China into a completely baseless distortion about the President wanting to level all incomes around the world to $14,602/year. In other words, Beck is hypocritically guilty of doing what Breitbart did to Shirley Sharrod and what Media Matters did to Grey and Burguiere only worse. He has not even acknowledged this video editing, and the mainstream media has not yet noticed Beck's June 29th example of Beck's video editing or this subsequent hypocrisy with his attack on Media Matters.

Dude, you are truly despicable.

Someone seems a bit over-obsessed with Glenn Beck.

Anonymous said...

You're a jackass!

The Glenn Beck Review said...

And this is how the Beckheads respond to Beck's hypocrisy. I'm over-obsessed with a liar, hypocrite and charlatan that people follow? I think you have it backward.

Anonymous said...

weak.

The Glenn Beck Review said...

Weak. Beck "Breitbarts" Obama and scolds Media Matters for doing the same to Pat and Stu. That's not weak, that's sheer hypocrisy.

You really must be a government plant that is afraid of the truth. I really don't know why you hate the truth so much but unless you want to be saluting a dictator in your near future, you should probably listen to Mr. Beck. He is the person that will play a major role in the salvation of this country!

Dear Anonymous: On a site called "The Glenn Beck Review," did you expect this gent to be "obsessed" with Rush Limbaugh? Thumbs up to the Glenn Beck Review man for his hard work.

Here's a math formula for you...
X = Number of people with access to the internet (millions)
Y = Poorly written blog of opinions that no one else shares
X + Y = 13 (Number of followers you have)

Do you believe in God? If so you should start praying, if not then you may just be to lazy or mentally unstable to notice the beautiful world around you. Please let us know when you get your #. Socialism NEVER ends well. I truly hope that you will be the first to repent to your God when that time comes.

I thank you sir, for pointing this out. This guy, and the "news" channel he's on, are nothing but pure propaganda arms of the right.

ACORN is gone because of their phony propaganda. How powerful is this country going to let these people get before people wake up?

The Glenn Beck Review said...

Anonymous, Y = just the start of what will be a long effort to contact others who share my opinions. I'm not doing much to promote this yet.

The next anonymous, I do believe in god; and it doesn't listen to prayer. I'm a deist like Jefferson was. My #? Obama is not socialist which is why progressive Micheal Green writes such scathing analysis of the Administration. I have nothing to repent for. Clearly Beck is admired by religuous folks.

The other anonymous, you're welcome. These people will continue to grow in numbers as will opponents of this shrill shill. I don't know if his followers will wake up, but there are enough folks rational enough to counter this charlatan.

Feel better now that you got that off your chest. Your argument was, at best, weak and you are obvisouly trying to use glen beck as a spring board to acclaim. I'm sorry I wasted my time reading your drivel. Go comment on a real story.

The Glenn Beck Review said...

My "argument" was not weak. Beck Breitbarted Obama in a much more deceptive and yellow - as in yellow propaganda - manner than Media Matters did to Stu and Pat. What's weak is your attack on me. You think I'm interested in acclaim? There's a Giant - Jets preseason game that I'd much rather be watching. I'm a media watchdog that pulled myself off the couch kicking and screaming...at Beck.

By ignoring the information that's presented and making accusations at me, you're engaging in an ad hominem attack. It's typical of what a leader's minion would do. Nothing new from the far right, and certainly not the first time here on The Glenn Beck Review.

Beck paint's it one way; you paint it the other.I'm just glad we still have freedom of speech for now.Yes I do believe we need to keep that freedom an stand for those we disagree with. Otherwise the government will only let those that agree with them speak. Part of that freedom is to have beck tell it his way because sometimes he does bring out things other do not. Kid Cleveland

The Glenn Beck Review said...

Kid, most of what Beck "brings out" is bogus. Obama is a corporate liberal. He's gone against his opposition to Bush's war suppression of certain liberties and even has targeted Americans for assassination without trial. Beck was right, although six months late with that news; and I noted it.

Beck is wrong about a lot. Instead of accepting the things he "brings out," do some damn research to decide if what he's saying is accurate. Read this blog and do your own research. Prove where I have it the wrong way.

Beck didn't paint this one way; Beck left half the canvass blank...and that is the hypocrisy here!

Thanks for the freedom of speech. You went through an awful lot of hard-work to get this it seems like, and I'll respect you for it. EVERYONE should be called to everything they do wrong (at least those who have positions of powers or persuasion such as Obama and Glenn).

How I see it, this is only one of two times I have ever seen Glenn do this, and my respect went down for him but only slightly. We are all human and make mistakes. Forgive and forget. It's what the Lord does.

If you wonder if I am Republican or Democrat, I am neither. I hate both parties. George Washington once said that political parties would be the end of this great nation. Look where we are.

Heck, with all the shi* that Bush and Obama have done, I would not be surprised to see the economy tank by mid-september, and by Christmas 2010, have the entire World Economy collapse. Most people don't realize how dependant the world is on us. But...it'll eventually recover. But I would recommend not getting back in unless you know what you are doing. For the average person it is a scam anyway.

I am sleepy. I'll hopefully have a response from a few people by the time I come back tomorrow.

When was the last time you did something nice for someone? Just for the sake of being nice?

The Glenn Beck Review said...

Anonymous, there are plenty examples of Beck's hypocrisy, 6 in May that I noticed. I found 2-3 examples in Common Nonsense: Glenn Beck and the Triumph of Ignorance.

Beck doesn't "make mistakes." He purposely lies and misinforms because that is the only way to make his assault on progressivism "real." I'm not the Lord, and I'll keep hammering Beck for his ignorance, deceit and hypocrisies as I find them. He is unforgivable in his destruction to political discourse.

I don't care what Party you're in. There are folks on the far left that hate both parties too. The parties have to be centrist; that's the insight of Overton and his window.

I agree with you about the Stock Market. I have my investments in a Money Market fund; my broker says it's protection against what you and Beck, last night especially, are saying is on the horizon.

History suggests that a market correction is normal. I'm not worried.

The other Anonymous: I do nice things for people at work. I just now held the door for a woman walking out behind me. Saturday I bought my wife a pack of cigs without being asked. The latter two were just for the sake of being nice.

The "hypocrisy", the "hypocrisy", what hypocrisy? And such a BIG word coming from libtards. Beck is telling us the truth in Obama’s and the other libtards' own words. Every word Glenn Beck speaks comes from the mouths of these fools. He shows clip after clip of these idiots speaking out against America and our Constitution. Typical libtard tactics, if the message is truthful smear the messenger. I have not seen one example of Beck’s hypocrisy. He is destroying the progressive movement with their own words and you libtards can’t take it.

The Glenn Beck Review said...

I blend journalistic techniques, research and investigation, to get to the bottom of Beck's claims. When I spot a lie, I show it. When I spot hypocrisy as I did here, I show it.

I also advocate from here based upon my findings. This is a blog, not a newspaper. The current popular taste includes a lot, a hell of a lot, of criticism of Glenn Beck. I've made it my mission until Beck stops lying, starts sticking with his principles and get the education he needs to be a commentator on TV.

I don't see that happening. He'll go blind first unless the upcoming "Miracle" is his cure ... by God of course.

The Glenn Beck Review said...

Anonymous, you sound like a redneck who posts on AOL that can't have an intelligent exchange. I'm certainly not going to make an effort with you.

You can't see Beck's hypocrisy because where you should have a superego, there is a vacuum.

You are as bogus as the dudes post that sent me here! GB will be the salvation of the USA.

Glenn Beck, is a fraud, a liar and a hypocrite. You can't see this because you're emotionally attached to him. He's a wizard at instilling feelings for him, and you are gullible to let him suck you into his vortex of extremist, stupid, yellow propaganda.

We're not going back to the 19th Century.

Hello to all Anonymous posters who love Glenn Beck.

The gent who runs this blog asked me to do a guest piece a while ago. Why? Because I used to live for Glenn Beck. I loved him. I believed him. I saw one of his shows. I bought his books. Then, I became skeptical.

Check out my guest blog. It's from July and is called "Seeking the truth on the road from supporter to critic."

Also, Victor is not a libtard. What the hell kind of word is that anyway? Can we have a rational debate or conversation without resorting to ad hominem abuse? Are we grown adults here?

Victor, glad to know someone else on Earth smokes. Wish you'd buy me a pack as they are getting too expensive!

Keep up the Beck research and good luck.

Show the President's comments in context and detail like you did Beck's. At this point, on this post, all we can do is take your word that is what happened. Please back it up with more content, or links to the President's unedited words.

I seached for the GB video this piece refers to but have not found it. I did find other information related to this topic, one that was written by the blogger of this site. In that article it indicates Beck took two sentences the President said, put them together and interpreted them wrong.

Aside from this article I don't understand how a "media crtic" can say they are all about truth when the only thing you seem to blog about is Glenn Beck. There is misinformation put out by a lot of people in the media and a lot of different media outlets. As for Beck saying the President wants to cut everyone's income in the U.S. to $14,000 as a "fact" is rediculous. I think most people understand Beck is an opinion show. Sure he presents some hard facts but most of his show is him telling the audience his opinion of what those facts mean.

You would garnish a lot more credibility if you would actually take the time to point out any and all media personalities that present falses or misleading information.

The Glenn Beck Review said...

Tony, the only thing I blog about is Glenn Beck because this is the Glenn Beck Review. When Beck goes blind and retires, I'll start another Review.

I wrote that Beck "misinterpreted" Obama, and that was generous. Now I see it as a much darker attempt to DECEIVE his viewers into thinking that Obama was discussing something that he was not discussing at all. That is a lie. The FACT is that Obama was talking about trade with China when mentioning the level playing field, not income.

I don't have enough time to do this Review well enough. I have a full time job and Beck gives me more lies, hypocrisies, hate-mongering, vitriol and other false claims than I can keep up with now. My credibility comes from my expertise, my honesty, my willingness to point out when Beck is correct and my willingness to make corrections when I get MY facts wrong. That's where credibility comes from, not from spreading myself out too thinly to have depth and insight.
